The Monash Association of Debaters (MAD) is currently soliciting applications for the following positions:
1. Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Monash Debate Review (MDR)
Position Description:The position of Editor-in-Chief is open to all members of the international debating community. In 2010, the MDR Editor-in-Chief was Harish Natarajan, who reached the Semi-Finals of the World Universities Debating Championships representing the University of Cambridge.
The Editor-in-Chief is in charge of overseeing the MDR publication process.
Responsibilities:
(i) Set editorial policy for the journal and provide the vision and leadership that will assure that the *Monash Debating Review* is the pre-eminent journal in the field;
(ii) Provide general oversight of journal content, including determining the content and themes of each edition;
(iii) Encourage the submission of manuscripts of the highest standard from the world debating community;
(iv) Manage an international team of Associate-Editors, who will edit, proofread and critically analyse submitted articles;
(v) Report regularly to the MAD Executive;
(vi) Have ultimate responsibility for the acceptance or rejection of all contributions;
(vii) Determine which manuscripts are to be published in each issue and give final approval for publication;
(viii) Maintain the production timeline of the journal (an edition must be produced by October 2011); and
(ix) Assist with the marketing of the MDR to the debating community.
Selection Criteria: Applications will be judged based on the best combination of:
(i) Previous editorial and/or publication experience;
(ii) Debating and/or adjudicating experience; and
(iii) A cover letter detailing reasons for wanting to serve.
Compensation: The MDR is a free online journal and as such, the Editor-in-Chief is a volunteer position.
2. MDR Associate EICs (4 slots)
Position Description: Associate Editor positions are open to all members of the international debating community. In 2010, Associate Editors were appointed from Europe, North America and Australasia.
Responsibilities:
(i) Encourage the submission of manuscripts from the worldwide debating community;
(ii) Analyse and critically evaluate each submission;
(iii) Proofread and edit submitted articles; and
(iv) Report regularly to the EIC.
Selection Criteria: Applications will be judged based on the best combination of:
(i) Previous editorial and/or publication experience;
(ii) Debating and/or adjudicating experience; and
(iii) A cover letter detailing ability to effectively fulfill the position's responsibilities.
Compensation: The MDR is a free online journal and as such, the position of A-EIC is on a purely voluntary basis.
