2011 ALSA UI Updates - UI reclaims ALSA title
Universitas Indonesia (Adlini Ilma Ghaisany, Dennys Kapa, Roderick Sibarani) proposed the motion THW allow consensual cannibalism at the Grand Final of the 2011 ALSA UI (varsity debates)

with a team from BINUS INTERNATIONAL (Ravina Alimchandani, Annisa Kusumawardhani Sabran, and Jaran Walia) opposing the motion before a home crowd from EDS UI and other UI alumni gathered at the
Faculty of Law complex at the UI Depok campus last night. It was BIPEDS' first appearance at an ALSA grand final, and its third appearance at a grand final in as many tournaments for 2011.

EDS UI got the adjudicators' nod which, due to conflicts and due to a number of breaking adjudicators not being available to attend the grand final, was whittled down to a select but competent number.
The victory marks EDS UI's first tournament take for the year, after earlier grand final appearances in tournaments held during the first quarter of 2011. With this recent victory, EDS UI reclaimed the ALSA title, which was won last year by the Bandung Institute of Technology (Institut Teknologi Bandung).
The Top 3 Best Speakers of the Varsity Level Debates were also announced. They are: #1 - Satrio Pratama (Universitas Diponegoro), #2 - Adlini Ilma Ghaisany (Universitas Indonesia), and in joint third - Astri Agustina (Universitas Gajah Mada) and Roderick Sibarani (Universitas Indonesia).
This ends debateIndonesia's coverage of the 2011 ALSA UI. Special thanks go to Steven, Rajkumar Sangtani and Boby Andika Ruitang for the photographs, and live updates!

2011 ALSA UI Updates - Motions for Semis
The 2011 ALSA UI debate competitions for both high school and varsity levels opened to a significantly thinned-out crowd for today's semifinal rounds.
Seminfinalists SMA 4 Denpasar (A & B), St Albertus Malang (A), and SMA 1 Sidoarjo chose from motions dealing with 'Feminism and Children's Rights':
M1 - THW give children the right to sue parents for lack of love.
M2 - THBT government must give wages to stay-at-home mothers.
M3 - THW allow (sic) the burqa in every EU member (sic) country.

Not that one! Semifinalists veto motions on 'Women and Children's Rights. |
Meanwhile, Bakrie University (A), BINUS INTERNATIONAL (B), Universitas Diponegoro, and Universitas Indonesia (A) chose which of these former motions to debate for the midday Semifinal round at the varsity level:
M1 - THW ban prisoners from publishing (sic) accounts of their crime.
M2 - THBT war journalists should be forced to reveal their sources (sic) before international criminal tribunals.
M3 - That the trials of alleged (sic) rapists of female victims should only be tried by a female judge and/or female jury.
